Two months since the fire
We would like to announce the total return to normality in terms of surfboard production: customer orders, commitment to quality and delivering boards within the allotted time frame. Both our team riders and customers are currently receiving their boards regularly.
On June 19, 2017 at around 5 pm, the Pukas surfboard factory, Olatu, had a spark creating a massive fire. The official reports have confirmed that it was an accidental fire of electrical origin by which our beloved factory was completely burned. Thanks to the effectiveness of the alarm systems and the immediate evacuation of the people who were working, we can celebrate today that there were no injuries.
We would like to thank the firefighters of Gipuzkoa (Diputación de Guipúzcoa) for their efforts to restrain the flames for hours until extinguishing them completely. Fortunately they managed to control the fire and minimize the impact on neighboring companies. This fire emergency easily qualifies as one of the toughest fires these brave Basque men and women have had to fight.
From Pukas, we also want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for the kind gestures of affection received. Our clients, industry partners, friends, institutions and surfers from all over the world have been very supportive since that fateful late June afternoon.
The rebuilding of our factory is a priority. It will be in the same location and our team will work day and night until the goal of constructing one of the finest surfboard facilities that Europe has ever seen. Until that day arrives our shapers, glassers, sanding machines and the rest of the factory team are working hard in nearby facilities. We are all focusing now more than ever on the quality of the boards that we build for our clients.
For further information you can go to our retailers and the Pukas Surf Shop shops or send an email to us at info@pukassurf.com.
Thank you very much,
The Pukas team.

INN·CA technology
Innegra fiber compliments other composite fibers lending itself to a variety of applications in a multiple of markets. Automotive, luggage, protective products, radomes, ballistics, and aerospace, to name a few, can benefit from the tough, lightweight, energy absorbing, and hydrophobic properties of this fiber.
Innegra material is used in many different sport and marine applications. Innegra fiber can enhance the impact resistance and damage tolerance while reducing weight and vibration.
Our carbon fiber has several advantages including high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance allow thermal expansion. These properties have made carbon fiber very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, motorsports and watersports. They are more expensive with similar fibers such as fiber glass or plastic fibers.

Pukas Pegaso by Christenson
A more performance based twin fin when compared to the Chris Fish model, the Pukas Pegaso has a slightly
more vertical approach to your surfing and handles bigger surf but still has that twin fin mentality.
Out of all Chris Christenson’s twin fins, this is his A team’s favorite.

PUKAS SURF x STAB IN THE DARK

Pukas // SITD week
A week to be remembered.
@pukassurf has been chosen for #SITD18. @stab’s Stab In The Dark is a blind taste surfboard test featuring 11 of the best shapes in the world.
We were handed a few notes: The unknown world class surfer wanted a 5’10”1/2, he was 177cm tall and 80kg.
@stab’s request for #SITD18: the Pukas board had to be an #ecoboard, certified by @sustainsurf, with an all-black look to it and no logos.
With an incredibly tight deadline we built our best high-performance surfboard yet.
We have called it the Pukas DARK, is shaped by @axellorentz and is built in our epoxy INNCA tech.
We were told the board would be surfed in a warm water Central American location.
Little did we know it would end up traveling the world, with epic in the mix.
Our most performance and most eco friendly surfboard yet. Custom built for 3x Wold Champ @mfanno.
We built 6 for Stab in the Dark. Quality control didn’t let one out for quality reasons. Another 2 didn’t feel right. And @hodeicollazo handpicked the final 3. Hodei ranked them from 1st to 3rd according to his pro surfer knowledge, a very powerful addition to our Pukas gang of surf addicts.
Identicals, but only 1 can be the magic. 5’10 1/2″ x 18,75 x 2,24 and 26,44 litres. 2.480kg. Stringerless molded EPS foam, black tinted epoxy resin with bio base and according to @stab’s editor @ashtonsealegs, eligible to enter the blind taste-test at the 4th Stab in the Dark.
A closer look to the making of the surfboard that @mfanno will be testing at the 4th edition of Stab in the Dark; a blind taste test featuring 11 of the best shapes in the world, including this Pukas built in the Basque Country, Spain.
The innegra fiber used in our epoxy construction (#INNCA) not only is lightweight and durable, but also is great in shock absorption. Toughness, durability and vibration damping will be tested at this year’s Stab in the Dark by @mfanno.
Our exclusive innegra fiber was carefully bathed in epoxy resin over a magic Pukas 5’10 1/2″ x 18,75 x 2,24 shaped out of an EPS foam by @axellorentz. @stab handed it to @mfanno for the 4th Stab in the Dark, a soon to be released project.
Our Pukas epoxy tech is called INNCA. Not only is lightweight and durable, but also is great in shock absorption. When invited to be a part of Stab In The Dark, using this tech was a no brainer. Toughness, durability and vibration damping in a high performance surfboard as we have never felt before. We can’t wait to see the blind taste surfboard tester and 3x World Champ @mfanno’s reaction to it.
INNCA loving: the epoxy resin being applied on @mfanno’s 5’10 1/2″ x 18,75 x 2,24 and 26,44 litres. 2.480kg. Stringerless molded EPS foam, black tinted epoxy resin and innegra fibers cooked to perfection for @stab’s 4th edition of Stab In The Dark.
@stab requested a no-logo, full-black epoxy #ecoboard approved by @sustainsurf for the 4th edition of Stab In The Dark. The Pukas INNCA tech ticked all the right boxes.
Designed and shaped by @axellorentz.
5’10 1/2″ x 18,75 x 2,24 and 26,44 litres. 2.480kg were the measures when we bet on Mick Fanning. As a reminder we were just handed that the unknown world class surfer wanted a 5’10”1/2, was 177cm tall and 80kg.
Words by @mayhemsurfboards_mattbiolos : “Axel is a friend, and long time partner of ours in Europe. He has been quietly working at PUKAS for decades. He has never been one to attract attention to himself, but can shape anything, anytime, for anyone. Short fat fish, Massive Guns and HP Shortboards, as evidenced by the result in the latest STAB… In The Dark.”
Words by @mctavishsurf : “Always respect from me to a REAL shaper!”
Words by @kepaacero :
“I’ve been working with Axel for many years and he has made me many boards of all kinds: thrusters, twins, single fins, guns … he is such a versatile shaper.
He is a shaper that I can always count on for the right board. I have a lot of confidence in him because he has intuition. He is an artist and at the same time he knows how to listen, which is a great quality in a shaper.”

Laminating a Pukas x Eye Symmetry by Max Stewart
All the Pukas x Eye Symmetry surfboards are built on a traditional polyurethane core with a complete epoxy laminate and finish (known as PE construction).
“We are thinking more long term by creating a more durable product”, says Max.
The epoxy resin is known to be a higher quality material than polyester. Is more UV resistant, stronger and has more reactive flex pattern. The result is a whiter and brighter surfboard that doesn’t yellow as quickly as a traditional polyester construction (aesthetics) which responds faster to your movements (performance).
“The carbon stripes are quite a visual thing that I love” says Max. “We are honoring a traditional surfboard building process but we are adding some minor reinforcement and visuals. It’s basically a bit more love put into the construction of the board to make it last longer for the surfer”.

PUKAS X YOW – PLAN B
We proudly present you the Pukas x Yow “Plan B”, a performance shape inspired by one of our favorite surfboards from all times.
The Pukas Plan B surfboard is an hybrid that stands in between a classic twin fin shape and a high performance thruster. A brilliant design out of the mind of Pukas shaper Axel Lorentz.
The surfskate replica of such a board, had to be just as incredible. Designers at Yow, along with Axel Lorentz, created a surfskate board that can take your performance to the maximum level, yet still looking as clean as the original surfboard.
We wanted to showcase the full potential of both surfboard and surfskate, reason why we called one of our best performers, Yago Dominguez, and spent a full day with him: first surfing in the water, later inland.
The result is a one minute video full of sharp turns and big airs. Once again showing how close your feeling can be when surfskating as when surfing.

Pukas Rush
Pukas Rush by Axel Lorentz

Pukas The Rush by Axel Lorentz
HIGH PERFORMANCE | A sudden quick movement toward radical-fun surfing where aesthetics matter.
The late Ron Roush carried lots of momentum in the 80s and early 90s at our factory defining an era with his shapes and attitude. Looking back to his boards, there was one particular design that caught Axel Lorentz’s attention. Inspired by it’s outline, Axel re-interpreted the new design to today’s standards.
Staying true to the outline, the board now applies 30 years of surfing evolution being reactive, super fast and excelling when carving the face of the wave with the help of the wings. A great fun choice for waves up to overhead surf (1m50).
